PHAMBINHO W/ MONICA TOLIA
London, 13.06.23
A mix as an allegory of a life. London-based Asian American artist, choreographer and performer Monica Tolia takes the listener on a journey that swings between eras and genres, from the East to the West coast of America, all the way to the UK. Hollywood cinema references, old school hiphop legends, stereotype-exploding parody rap, West Coast indie rock, R&B and electronic… all sounds and energies that have influenced Monica as an artist. Nested in the mix are two of Monica’s own sound works ‘Kyoko’, and an excerpt from the performance ‘a snake in the house means the family will never want’ (touring live starting 15 June, funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England).
