An hour of Mexican Mariachi & Rancheras sung in Croatian and Serbian, produced in the post-war period in Yugoslavia. Many of the films shown in Yugoslavia in the 1950s–1960s were Mexican, due to a restriction on importing Soviet and American films. As a result, everything Mexican became popular in Yugoslavia and many musicians started to don sombreros to perform Mexican music, either singing in Serbo-Croatian or in the original Spanish.

Kaitlyn Aurelia-Smith Presents: TouchThePlants with GEM

With Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Cool Maritime

Composer and modular synth expert Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith presents TouchThePlants on NTS' Los Angeles studio once a month for a round-up of favourites and inspirations from her label TouchThePlants.

Meg Shoemaker aka GEM lives and works in Los Angeles, California. She spends her time curating music happenings, with a pointed focus on deep-listening, and the underlying concept of ceremony. She aims to find a cross-over between music, and the ethereal realms of meditation and ritual.

GEM loves djing vinyl whenever possible. Inspired by the "all-genre" movement coming out of Los Angeles through Leaving Records, and the rich community of artists here, she plays what inspires her with a deep draw to fourth world, ambient, experimental jazz, and new age. That said, when it's time to dance, there is no shortage of disco in her life.
