Rich & Johnny's Inzane Michigan - The Pep Perrine and Bootsey X Special

On this month’s episode of InZane Michigan, Rich and Johnny spotlight two Michigan drummers turned solo artists: Pep Perrine (of the Bob Seger System) and Bootsey X (of The Ramrods). Pep was Bob Seger’s first drummer, starting in high school circa the early 1960s. Pep left the System after the 1970 “Mongrel” LP. As for the other beat-keeper, Bootsey X (real name Robert Mulrooney) was not only a member of The Ramrods, but also Coldcock, The Sillies, Rocket 455 and more. R.I.P to Bootsey, a Detroit legend who passed away too soon in 2013. Word is, Pep, Seger’s first ride-or-die bandmate, is still out there (allegedly) … but hasn’t been seen for years. His lone (and bizarre) 1969 solo LP, “Live and In Person!” (Hideout Records) is played in full here. Stay to the end to hear his ode to eating chip dip. After that, a bulk of Bootsey X and the Lovemasters’ “Pusherman of Love” album closes out the show with some funky raw power from 1997.
