Sample Chief’s Sunday Symposium event was held at The Library Lounge of The Standard, London, on October 8th 2023. The conversation explored African music’s interaction with the West. Tryb is a DJ, host and radio producer. She’s on NTS Radio and Voices Radio. She hosts the Highlife & Sunshine show on NTS. Zainab Kuku is a music and culture writer, founder of Indigo Distortion, writer and editor at Sample Chief and writer for The Republic Journal. Dr. Michelle is a freelance music writer and has a PhD in music psychology, specializing in music and wellbeing and how we imagine music in the mind. She’s been a DJ for 10 years, loves Club music and Ambient music. Dare Balogun is a DJ, producer and founder of Vandelay Radio. He’s also a cultural strategist for Saatchi, working on brand partnerships, music and music culture. Jojo is a graphic designer and founder of No Signal and Recess, both prominent Black culture platforms in the UK. He's also a DJ that has a vested interest in black nightlife beyond his own events.
