Singer-songwriter Fabrizio De André is often considered one of the greatest artists in the Italian musical tradition. An incredibly talented lyricist and poet, he was a voice for the downtrodden and marginalised, sex workers and the homeless. He sang about the political struggles of his time, often attacking the Catholic Church and the institutions of power. De André released music in Italian but also in his own Genoese dialect, Sardinian, and Neapolitan. He is also renowned for reworking other artists’ music and poetry. He produced fourteen studio albums before his untimely passing in 1999. On this, the 20th anniversary of his death, Paola Laf selects an hour of his music. All lyrics also available in English.
