All Blue - An NTS Introduction to Modal Jazz. A style of Jazz that utilizes musical modes as harmonic framework over traditionally used chord progressions. It took its start in the late 1950s when artists such as George Russell began experimentation with a modal approach to their music. Since then, some of the most well known jazz artists began using modal progressions in their music, including John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Herbie Hancock.
