There are at least seven different bands called Balls.
1) Balls, or ボールズ, is a Japanese rock band. They formed as ミラーマン (Mirrorman) in 2008, before changing their name to Balls in 2014. They released two albums under the name, 2014's スポットライト (Spotlight), and 2015's SEASON. They broke up in 2017, before reforming in 2020.
2) Balls was a short-lived band from the United Kingdom formed by Rory Attwell, Sam Mehran, and Ferry Gouw in the early 2000's. The band unofficially split when Ferry Gouw went home to his native Indonesia for a summer when Balls had been booked to play with The Unicorns. Rory and Sam asked their old friend Devonte Hynes to replace Ferry for the gig. This trio would soon go on to form the well-known, short-lived, but highly-praised outfit known as Test Icicles who signed with Domino Records and became pioneers in the New-Rave scene, despite only being around for about a year and a half.
3) Balls were a Finnish rock band, heavily influenced with blues, rockabilly, lo-fi and psychedelia. They were most active between 1989 to 2003, but they still play live occasionally. Their best known album is "Jungle in a Barrel" from 1995.
Lineup: Marjo Leinonen, vocals / Petri Peevo, guitar / Tipi Järvinen, guitar / Jari Paulamäki, bass / Sami Vettenranta, drums / Pera Huuskonen, guitar / Jimi Sero, bass (1990-1996) / Rane Raitsikka, bass (1989-1990). After Balls, Marjo Leinonen and Sami Vettenranta started a band called Viranomaiset. Petri Peevo started playing guitar for The Flaming Sideburns. In 2005 the essential recordings of Balls were compiled and released as "Fastlane Through The History of the Balls, 1988-2003" (Low Frequency Records, 2005) Guitarist Tipi Järvinen passed away on 3.12.2007.
4) Balls was a short-lived supergroup from Birmingham, put together by ex-The Move guitarist Trevor Burton. The star-studded line-up, managed by Tony Secunda (T. Rex's manager at the time), released just one single in September 1971 - Fight For My Country (Wizard WIZ 101).
Trevor Burton (vocal & guitar) Steve Gibbons (vocal, harmonica) Denny Laine (bass guitar, vocal) Mike Kellie (drums) Richard Tandy (keyboards) Alan White (drums) David Morgan (bass guitar) a.k.a. Dave Morgan Keith Smart (drums) Jackie Lomax (guitar, vocal)
5) The "other half" of the Vancouver band Basketball
6) A staten island punk band
7) Three bass players and a drummer got together for the first time one sunny November day in 1990 in a basement music room in the Boston neighborhood of Jamaica Plain. Greg Wildes (Ski-A-Delics, Gas Tank Orchestra) and Chris Ballew Egg, (Beck, Presidents of the United States of America), both living in the house at the time, were joined by composer Mark Steven Brooks (Elaterium Records, Gamelan Son Of Lion) and drummer Phil Franklin (Egg, Caroliner, Franklin's Mint). On that day the sparks flew fine and furious as they jammed their asses off. The second time they met up to play sparks flew again, but more like short circuits and grinding gears. Unable to resolve artistic differences, it was Chris that finally remarked "If this band was a girlfriend we'd break up." We all just looked at each other with nothing more to say and it was over. Fortunately, that first session was recorded. Some of this material was previously released on vinyl EP by Elaterium Records. UNCUT is the complete session with no edits, in the original mono. https://soundcloud.com/snicklefritzproductions/balls-jam-one
