Irmãos Almeida was an Angolan kizomba group consisting of the two brothers Beto de Almeida and Moniz de Almeida. Moniz died in 2013 leading to a halt in performances of the group of heart failure but in 2019 Beto took up the b(r)and name again as a way to honour his brother.
Moniz de Almeida started out as a troubadour in Cuando Cubango, where for many years he was the winner of local competitions and thus became its national representative. In turn, Beto de Almeida was “Beto Viola” in Lubango and the children's song marks his artistic career. A few years later Moniz conquered Luanda and the country with his “Tio Zé. Then the brother follows the same path and “Paciência” does not go unnoticed by the national public. The two entered the studio together in 1989 to record themes such as “Eu espero”, “Vou comer então aonde” and “Sozinho”. At this time, they released individual recording works, Beto with “Cara de pau” and Moniz de Almeida with “Tio Zé". After officially deciding to form a duo, their first album, “Kimbanda”, came out in 1996. The Almeida Brothers belong to the movement of artists who were often called upon to perform at the most advanced points of combat during the armed conflict.
