Ridge Racer is an arcade racing video game originally created by Namco in 1993 as a sit down arcade and then ported to the the Playstation in 1994. From there it was then released in 1995 as a USA launch title for Sony's first console.

With an upbeat soundtrack comprised of original music, including songs themed around other Namco games, the music has always been a large element of the Ridge Racer series, with older tracks, such as Motor Species and Rotterdam Nation being remixed in newer games as well as the inclusion of an increasing number of new songs.

Namco also went on to create several sequels to the orignial, including Ridge Racer Type 4, the final Ridge Racer game to be released on the Playstation, as well as several other versions for the Playstation Portable, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 64, Xbox 360 and the Playstation 2.
