Les Sœurs Goadec

Les Sœurs Goadec

Les Sœurs Goadec has been played on NTS in shows including Slow Hand Clutches, featured first on 24 May 2019. Songs played include Konskried Sant-Nikolaz - Les Conscrits De St-Nicolas.

Les soeurs Goadec were a singing trio of three Breton sisters: Maryvonne Goadec (1900-1983), Anasthasie Goadec (c.1913-1998), and Eugénie Goadec (1909-2003).

Originally from Treffrin (Côtes-d'Armor), they began to perform traditional Breton songs at festoù-noz (traditional Breton festivals of song and dance) in 1956, and gained renewed fame and popularity in the Breton revival of the 1960s. They specialised in Breton songs and gwerzioù (ballads or laments), they also developed a three-voice version of the Kan ha diskan (call-and-response singing) as songs for dancing.

They stopped performing in 1983 when Maryvonne died, though Eugénie began singing and recording again in1994 with her daughter Louise Ebrel.
