Longshoremen

Longshoremen

Longshoremen has been played on NTS in shows including Bullion, featured first on 18 March 2019. Songs played include What Does It All Mean? and Putra - Car Of The Future.

Longshoremen were an unbelievably weird Bay area beat poetry group, led by a lyricist/musician by the name of "Dog." Their 1985 debut LP (never released on CD as far as I know) "Grr Huh Yeah" (on Subterranean Records and produced by members of Voice Farm) featured off kilter percussion (yep, the bongos are there!), haunting stand-up bass and Dog's ultra strange vocal inflections/shouts/moans. Imagine a jazzier Stump being fronted by an LSD laden Jack Kerouac. In 1986, Longshoremen released a far more coherent LP entitled "Walk The Plank" and then they disappeared from view forever.

If you're a Captain Beefheart fan, or just like "outsider music", you'll love Longshoremen.
