DJ Maus

DJ Maus has been played on NTS in shows including Meuko! Meuko!, featured first on 4 March 2019. Songs played include Afro On Gorge.

Louise Gauvreau a.k.a Maüs was raised in Montreal by Jazz and Disco music-freaks. She is the queen of mashed potatoes and once dreamed to be Barry White's wife. She was also acclaimed world-wide in URB (The Next 100 - 2001), CODA, Mixer, XLR8R and Wax magazines for crossing lines, breaking through categories, and defying expectations.

Back in 1997, under the moniker of Mouse Factory, Louise started to produce events in Montreal, inviting local and international talent with the simple intention of sharing and playing the sound she fell for. In 1999, she had already opened for David Bowie, Moby, St-Germain and Rony Size. In 2000, her eloquently mixed debut CD Intersections (Haute Couture Records, 2000), featuring artists such as Omni Trio, Amon Tobin, Plug and Tee Bee, clearly demonstrated many crossroads of the D&B movement. Establishing Maüs as a substantial contributor to the scene, Intersections earned her an honourable ranking on URB Magazine's NEXT 100 List and left a strong impression to the worldwide press. The Intersections tour included Montreal's Club Soda leaving show, Barcelona's Sonar Festival, Les Francofolies de Larochelle, MEG Festival Paris (Batofar), Lisbon (Lux), London, Prague and Budapest. In 2001, she was commissioned to mix the compilation for Montreal's annual Cream Festival, Cream CD3 (YUL Records) further showcasing her now predominant minimal-tech and electro-tech-house sound. Maüs also played her sound in Intl festivals such as Montreal Intl Jazz Festival (1999, 2003, 2006), Les Vieilles Charrues (France) and many more. Her signature is groovy with a sensual but firm touch. Paradoxical, she loves cerebral music that makes you move and deconstructed rythms with a funky but darkette attitude. - "A petite young lady with a surpirising force, Maüs took over and gave the crowd what they had been waiting for. From ethereal soul tracks to slightly twisted sounds, her energetic presence behind the decks carried through Aria s speakers stacks in a way that I havent heard for quite some time" - Chad Eccleston, Xpander Magazine, NL

Today, Maüs continues to charm international audiences with her dynamic approach to electronic dance music. She held a residency in the main room of Montreal afterhours Club ARIA from July 2002 till Novemebr 2006. She is now a monthly resident at Telephunk wich is held every tuesday at Montreal’s Salon Daome. She plays regularly in Europe in Dominican Republic. While dabbling in music production since 2003, she remixed legendary new/cold-wave formation Trisomie 21 in 2004. Her remix of The Sweet Running Over (Happy Mystery Child, Le Maquis) appears on the triple CD project, The Man is a Mix alongside The Hacker, David Carretta and Jack de Marseille. You can hear her voice on most of her work and some collaborations including Leo Cruz's Disco Musique (Saboteur Musique) and Blanali's Victim (Techsound records) wich is now available on Beatport.com and will soon be released on vynil. Her first live set was heard at Montreal's Intl Jazz Festival in 2005 with bass player Gilles Brisebois. Maüs has returned in her home studio for winter 2007. À suivre…
