Grupo Medusa

Grupo Medusa

Grupo Medusa has been played on NTS shows including Patrick Forge, with Ferrovias first played on 4 March 2019.

Grupo Medusa was a Brazilian instrumental music band that played in the early 1980s, whose repertoire was based on the fusion between jazz and Brazilian genres and rhythms, such as samba, bossa nova, baião and others. It gained notoriety for bringing together some of the best musicians in the Brazilian instrumental scene, including Heraldo do Monte, Olmir Stocker, and Amilson Godoy.

The group was formed in the early 1980s by Amilson Godoy (piano), Heraldo do Monte (guitar, mandolin and acoustic guitar), Cláudio Bertrami (bass) and Chico Medori (drums and percussion). It was with this line-up that the band recorded its first album with the same name. The recording also featured Theo da Cuíca and Jorginho Cebion on percussion. After the release of the album, they performed several concerts throughout Brazil and also played at the 3rd Jazz Festival in Paris in 1982.

In their second lineup, Theo da Cuíca (percussion) and Olmir Stocker, who replaced Heraldo do Monte, joined the band. It was with them that the group recorded its second album, Ferrovias, in 1983, with the special participation of Dominguinhos on accordion.
