Steve Gurley

Steve Gurley

Steve Gurley has been played over 40 times on NTS, first on 2 May 2013. Steve Gurley's music has been featured on 40 episodes.

(1992 - present)

Always quiet and not one to hog the limelight, Steve has gone about his musical career with passion and finesse and has made dancefloor classic after dancefloor classic. Whatever music he turned his hands to, he always seemed to have a hit.

He first started releasing music in 1992, when he was part of the group Foul Play during the ever growing rave scene at the time.

When Drum n Bass became industrial in the mid 90's, he felt that it was swaying away from what he was doing or feeling and being a music lover he decided to make some UK Garage which at the time was still very fresh and very underground. He was not to know the impact that he would have on that scene and it was what he done back in those days that opened the door for artists like Dynamite and Mystique to take their music to the big stage. One after the other, he was just making tunes that were so big in clubland that he was doing what Alex Reece did for Drum n Bass and changing the face of the music and having everyone following his style. He made classics like Lenny Fontana's 'Spirit of the Sun' and Robbie Craig's 'Lessons in Love' which were getting massive play on Kiss FM and Radio 1 alike, plus support from all the underground stations. He was even finding his tunes getting on top soaps like 'Eastenders'. He was also behind big tracks like, Omni Trio's 'Renegade Snares (Foul Play Remix)' and Leee John's club anthem 'Mind, Body and Soul'.

Steve has known DJ Phantasy for many years now and they started to work together in 1995. They did a few projects under different guises and they made a wide range of music together. They had a couple of tracks that went big in clubland, but again these were not under their artists names. He also did the UK Garage mix of DJ Phantasy's 1997 classic 'Music Is My Life' which went on to do really well and again proved that he was a leading figure, not just in the scene, but in the music industry.

Most recently he has been releasing UK funky house under the guise "G Connection"
