Philip Carden Thornalley was born in Worlington, Suffolk, England on January 5th, 1960. After an apprenticeship for RAK studios as an engineer Phil became the producer for The Cure on their fourth album, Pornography. He then joined the band to tour as bassist for 18 months while also producing and playing the iconic bass line on ‘Love Cats’. He went on to mix and/ or produce Prefab Sprout, Duran, The Waterboys, John Martyn , Thompson Twins, Ash (“Girl from Mars”) and XTC.

Since the 90’s Phil has worked primarily as a songwriter for other artists, notably on the Natalie Imbruglia hit, "Torn", which he also produced. Amongst his other hit songs are Pixie Lott ( "Mama Do” , “Boys & Girls”) and songs on five albums for Bryan Adams . In 2017 Phil joined Bryan Adams band as bassist for 18 months touring the world.

From 2018 he has released his own music under the band moniker ‘Astral Drive’, a seventies inspired, Todd Rundgren’esque blend of power pop, psychedelic rock and heartfelt soul. Available on Lojinx records.
