Sly, Slick And Wicked

Sly, Slick And Wicked has been played over 10 times on NTS, first on 21 July 2014. Sly, Slick And Wicked's music has been featured on 12 episodes.

In early 1970 in Cleveland, Ohio, John F. Wilson, Charles Still and Marc Sexton formed a group, which they named "SLY, SLICK & WICKED". John F. Wilson is "SLY", Charles Still is "SLICK" and Marc Sexton is "WICKED".

Eddie " The Spoiler" Perrell [legendary " Stax" recording artist] recorded the group in 1970 in Cleveland, Ohio. The recordings were taken to New York. One of the songs "STAY MY LOVE" was picked up by Paramount Records a division of Paramount Motion Pictures and signed to the group on March 22, 1971 to the label by A & R recording legend Dean Courtney. Before the record was released, in 1971 Paramount nationally and internationally advertised and promoted " SLY, SLICK & WICKED" as their "HOTTEST NEWEST GROUP" and the song went # 1 on various charts across the country as well as the B side " Surely". In 1973, world famous entertainer James Brown heard about Sly, Slick & Wicked, and signed the group and they became part of James Brown's " FIRST FAMILY OF SOUL". " Sho Nuff" was written by the group and produced by James Brown, which also went number accross, the country on various charts. It was released on People Records a division of Polydor, which was owned by James Brown. Because of the success of "Sho Nuff" Don Cornelius invited the group to appear on on his number # 1 national and international television show "Soul Train".

In 1974 " Turn on Your LoveLight went on sale throughout the United States , Canada and Europe on Shaker Records, owned by the world famous singing group " The O'Jays". Because of the excitement made by the Shaker Records release, in 1976 "SLY, SLICK & WICKED" was signed to Motown Records and album was released appropriately called "SLY, SLICK & WICKED".

In 1979 Epic a trade name for Sony Entertainment Inc. recorded and released "All I Want is You" worldwide. In 1975 the group appeared at the Kansas City Royals Baseball Stadium at "The Kool Jazz Festival" before 80,000 people and received a standing ovation. Also on that bill were other legends Count Basie, B. B. King, The Isley Brothers, Ohio Players, New Birth, Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes, Bobbi Humphrey and Cannon Ball Adderly. Polydor / Polygram records an important name in the recording industry, described " SLY, SLICK & WICKED " as " International Vocal Giants".

From 1970 to the present, the group has toured with, James Brown, The O'Jays, The Dells, Heatwave, ConFuckshun, Evelyn " Champage" King, The Dramatics, Charles Wright & The Watts 103 st. Rhythm Band, The Intruders, The Ohio Players, Archie Bell and The Drells and many more fellow legendary artists. The group has performed nationally and internationally to standing room only crowds. The group is presently in the studio recording a new album. They were displayed [but not inducted] in " THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME" in May 2003. On Oct. 11 2003 John and the group was one of the recipients of the annual "THE MEN OF MOTOWN AWARD" given by The Motown Museum. Other recipients that night were The Funk Brothers, The Originals, Bobby Taylor & The Vancouvers, and Willie Tyler and Lester. The Four Tops performed in their honor. Recently the group was inducted into "The Motown Alumni Hall of Fame". Celebrating 34 years of music in 2004, "The Original Mac Daddys of Soul" will try and give you 34 years more going into the new millennium.
