Sons Of Light

Sons Of Light

Sons Of Light has been played on NTS shows including Ted Draws, with Can't Fuck Wit first played on 3 July 2018.

There are multiple bands named Sons of Light: 1) A reggae band that released the enigmatic single Land of Love produced by Lee Perry in his legendary Black Ark Studio. 2) An R&B band from the UK.

1) Lee Perry's shift from successful, prolific producer to embittered, embattled recluse was gradual, but by 1978 the omens were there to be seen amidst the growing reels of unfinished albums and the ever growing pile of unreleased singles. Still, The Upsetter continued to unleash classic records, "Land of Love" included, before the entire Upsetting edifice crumbled in the following year.

Who Sons of Light were and how Perry came upon them remains an enigma, "Land" was apparently their sole release. This gives further evidence of Perry's phenomenal ability to take unknown talent and bring out their best, but also reflects his erratic temperament, for an ever smaller circle of artists were now willing to work with him, while equally tellingly, he failed to follow-up this fabulous single with a second. Wonderfully atmospheric and highly evocative, here Perry makes roots not brood as they so usually do but dream. The producer had previously created a similar aura for Bunny Wailer's "Dreamland", but this Land conjures up a more militant milieu with hints of tribal drums around the rhythm that snaps across the vast aural expanses his production creates.

"Land of Love" is a haunting piece, a musical journey that dovetails with the singers spiritual one, as they travel forth in search of an eden on earth where all of Jah Jah's children can live in love and unity. A glorious single and a roots masterpiece, that leaves one frustrated and desperate for more.

2) S.o.L are the R&B sensation arriving fresh out of the UK. Made up of brothers Lanre & Arinze Phillip and life long friend Tom Gray, they released their debut album in Europe last year to rave reviews and packed out shows, destroying live audiences with their raw power & energy in world famous venues such as The Jazz Cafe, London, Manchester Apollo, The Cavern Club, Liverpool & Hammersmith Palais. Following the albums release S.o.L were approached by Avista CEO Chizmatonic and shortly after signed a 2 album deal, the first of which is scheduled for release Spring ’08. All 3 members grew up together in the north of England and from an early age were singers and musicians in the church gospel choir ‘Voices of Reconciliation’. Since then, Lanre and Tom have gone on to become accomplished and respected producers within the music industry remixing for the likes of Usher & Twista and currently working on projects involving amongst others Busta Rhymes & Fabolous.

Already acclaimed at home in the UK & Europe, S.o.L are now quickly amassing fans and plaudits in the US and the rest of the world.

3) A rap trio from Queensbridge, New York City in the 1990's.
