Barnabás Dukay was born in Szõny, Hungary in 1950. He studied composition at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest under Rezsõ Sugár. From 1970 to 1990, he was a member of New Musical Studio, the Hungarian group of experimental musicians inspired by Bartók, Webern and György Kurtág. His other main inspirations include Boulez, Stockhausen, Cage and Ligeti as well as Ives and Ruggles.
