The Manfred Schoof Quintet was a German jazz ensemble performing and recording in the 60s and 70s. Manfred Schoof(* 1936), playing the trumpet and flugelhorn, is often regarded as one of the most influential German jazz musicians. Besides leading and participating in numerous jazz formations in his career, he is also known for his interpretation of works of contemporary composers, i.e. Bernd Alois Zimmermann.

1) The “early” Quintet (1966-67) Manfred Schoof - trumpet; Gerd Dudek - tenor saxophone; Alexander von Schlippenbach - piano; Buschi Niebergall - double bass; Jacki Liebezeit-drums

2) The “second” Quintet (1975-77) Manfred Schoof – trumpet, flugelhorn; Michael Pilz – bass clarinet; Jasper van’t Hof – piano, electric piano, organ; Günter Lenz – bass; Ralf Hübner – drums

For the LP Scales the Manfred Schoof Quintet was awarded the “Grosser Deutscher Schallplattenpreis” by the German Phono-Academy in 1977.
