Crystalized Movements

Crystalized Movements

Crystalized Movements has been played on NTS shows including The Cosmic Principle w/ Nick Mitchell Maiato, with Communal Storybook first played on 17 June 2018.

Crystalized Movements were formed in 1980 by Wayne Rogers and Ed Boyden, two freshmen at Tolland High School who bonded over their shared love of No Wave and 1960s psychedelia. After three years of experimenting, which included countless renditions of the song "Gloria," they decided in early 1983 that it was time to create an LP. They recorded loose duo versions of some of Wayne's songs and then parted ways shortly after graduating from high school in June of 1983.

During the summer, inspired by bands like Plastic Cloud and guitarist Randy Holden, Wayne dedicated himself to extensive guitar overdubs. The result was their debut album, Mind Disaster, which was released later that year in a limited edition of just 130 copies due to budget constraints. The record gained some attention in collectors' circles, eventually leading to its reissue by the UK Psycho label in 1984, albeit with a new cover. However, it was met with significant backlash within the 'psychedelic revival' community and quickly went out of print.

Meanwhile, Wayne expanded the band's lineup, and Crystalized Movements continued as a relatively obscure yet enduring presence in the Connecticut music scene until 1992. Over the years, Mind Disaster has undergone a critical reappraisal, with its heavy use of wah-wah and fuzz guitar earning it a reputation as a highly sought-after LP among enthusiasts.
