Jarad Anthony Higgins (born December 2, 1998 and died December 8, 2019), known professionally as Juice WRLD, was an American hip-hop artist from Chicago, Illinois. Regarded as one of the best freestylers of all time, he's credited for pioneering emo rap and was one of the key leading figures in the SoundCloud rap scene that garnered popularity in the late 2010s. His lyrics mostly revolved around heartbreak, drug abuse, and fragmented feelings; however, despite being labeled as an emo rapper, a large majority of his recorded songs were more upbeat and genre-bending. As a result, his lyrics often mixed flaunting about his: fame, wealth, and weaponry with his more iconic, emotional lyrical content. After releasing his breakout hits: "All Girls Are The Same" and "Lucid Dreams" (both of which peaked at number #41 and #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, respectively) on Soundcloud, he then signed to the Grade A Productions imprint, co-founded by Lil Bibby. Very shortly after, he secured a major-label deal with Interscope Records in a deal known to be worth $3 million dollars, ultimately changing his life overnight. He would eventually end up releasing his debut studio album Goodbye & Good Riddance on May 23, 2018. The album met positive critical reception, debuting at #4 on the Billboard 200, and featured one new single: "Lean Wit Me", alongside both Soundcloud hits "All Girls Are The Same" and "Lucid Dreams". Goodbye & Good Riddance has since gone 5x Platinum and has been reissued several times, most notably to include the tracks "Armed and Dangerous" and "Wasted (feat. Lil Uzi Vert)" which both peaked at #67 and #44 on the Billboard Hot 100, respectively.

He would later collaborate with one of his idols, Future on the mixtape, ‘Future & Juice WRLD Present… WRLD ON DRUGS’, which was released later that year and peaked at number #2 on the Billboard 200. After this, Jarad also contributed to the soundtrack for ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Soundtrack From & Inspired by the Motion Picture)’ with the track "Hide".

Juice WRLD announced his second album, Death Race for Love, which was released on March 8, 2019. It was preceded by the singles "Robbery" and "Hear Me Calling", with the former making its debut at number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album would top the Billboard 200 chart, after which the music video for "Fast" was released on April 9, 2019. Later that year he collaborated with YoungBoy Never Broke Again on "Bandit (with YoungBoy Never Broke Again)", peaking at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, while tragically being the last track to release before Jarad's untimely passing.

Higgins started his musical career as being genre-wide ranging through rock, punk, R&B and rap music. Higgins stated that his biggest influences were rappers Future , Chief Keef, Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Kanye West, and British rock singer Billy Idol. His other influences included Wu-Tang Clan, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, 2Pac, Eminem, Kid Cudi, and Escape the Fate. Higgins' music has been branded as "emo" and "rock" leaning, "genre-bending" with music focusing on having a "every broken heart, every wounded feeling."

On December 8, 2019, Higgins suffered a drug-induced seizure at Midway International Airport, Chicago, Illinois. According to the Chicago Police Department, Higgins was conscious and bleeding from the mouth when paramedics arrived on the scene. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he has pronounced dead shortly after. Higgins was 21. On December 22, 2019, the Cook County Medical Examiner stated that Higgins died as a result of toxic levels of oxycodone and codeine present in his system. In January 2020, a month following Juice Wrld's death, it was reported that at least two thousand songs were recorded before he died, making him have arguably one of the biggest unreleased discographies in hip-hop history alongside Lil Uzi Vert.
