Shelleyan Orphan was British alt-music duo Caroline Crawley (died 2016) and Jem Tayle. An enterprising and innovative band who peaked during the 1980s and early 1990s. Their first album, Helleborine, appeared in 1987. Their sophomore release, Century Flower, led to their larger commercial recognition.
Robert Smith of the Cure became a big fan and gave them the opening slot during the US leg of the 1989 Disintegration tour. During that tour relationships were forged with Porl Thompson (Cure lead guitarist at the time)…
