The Conscious Daughters

The Conscious Daughters

The Conscious Daughters has been played on NTS shows including Buried Light w/ Ashtrejinkins, with Gamers (Radio Instrumental) first played on 5 April 2018.

The Conscious Daughters were one of the most prominent female rap duos in music. Most known as the Bay Area’s hottest female group, the Daughters (CMG & Special One) have sold over 700,000 records worldwide. They exploded on the scene with “Fonky Expedition”, which officially put CMG and The Special One on the map, with their debut album, ‘Ear to the Street’ selling over 300,000 copies and yielding a cross-country tour. With three singles and three videos from that project, The Conscious Daughters had finally gained national recognition.

Their second effort, ‘Gamers,’ was released and sold over 200,000 copies, entering the Billboard Chart with a bullet. By continuing to bring bangin’ beats to the streets, TCD once again rocked the world with their female baller anthems.

The Conscious Daughters again brought heat with their third effort, ‘The Nutcracker Suite.’ Featuring themes of self-empowerment and sisterhood with a hardcore edge, The Conscious Daughters continued to prove that they had their collective thumb on the pulse of the street. With production by the Bay Area’s hottest producers, Paris, Rick Rock and Steven King, ‘The Nutcracker Suite’ is packed with head-noddin’ beats that compliment TCDs in-your-face style of rhyming.

A necessary compliment to women, this crew of female MCs provides a sorely-needed female perspective in hip-hop that rarely gets the attention it deserves

TCD's third album The Nutcracker Suite, with guests Kurupt, Roscoe, Yukmouth (of the Luniz), Spice 1, Suga T, Mystic, Cougnut and Sacramento producer Rick Rock, was released on Guerilla Funk Records on February 10, 2009, after being pushed back two years.

Tragically, on December 10, 2011, Smith passed away at her home. Initially, the cause of death was unknown, but it was eventually determined to be from complications associated with blood clots that reached her lungs.
