Birdsongs Of The Mesozoic

Birdsongs Of The Mesozoic

Birdsongs Of The Mesozoic has been played on NTS shows including Adam Oko, with The Orange Ocean first played on 25 November 2016.

Birdsongs of the Mesozoic is a musical group founded in Boston, Massachusetts in 1983.

After Roger Miller broke up the seminal post-punk group Mission of Burma due to his tinnitus, he co-formed Birdsongs of the Mesozoic to perform quieter music. Initial personnel were Roger Miller (piano), Martin Swope (guitar), Erik Lindgren (keyboards) and Rick Scott (keyboards); all personnel doubled on various percussion instruments.

The new group was entirely instrumental, and incorporated many disparate elements: "Very few bands have ever managed to straddle the worlds of modern classical music and rock as successfully as this one did."

Miller and Swope had left by the early 1990s, replaced by Ken Field (saxophone) and Michael Bierylo (guitar), leaving Lindgren in control of the group. He steered Birdsongs into more overtly-jazz influenced music. Miller has continued to work with the band in guest capacity from time to time.
