The Coconuts

The Coconuts

The Coconuts has been played on NTS in shows including Getting Warmer w/ Jen Monroe, featured first on 2 November 2016. Songs played include Naughty Boy and If I Only Had A Brain.

The Coconuts are the backing singers for Kid Creole (August Darnell). They were led by Adriana Kaegi, at the time Darnell's wife, the other original members were Cheryl Poirier and Taryn Hagey. The actual members of The Coconuts have changed over the years. None of the original Coconuts perform with the group.

In 1983, capitalising on the popularity of Kid Creole and the Coconuts' 1982 album Tropical Gangsters/Wise Guy, the trio ofrecorded a spin-off album titled The Coconuts. Janique Svedberg later replaced Hagey as a member. In 1991, the trio (Kaegi, Poirier and Svedberg) recorded a follow-up LP titled Killer Bees . This was only released in Japan.

While not a Coconuts album, Adriana Kaegi and Cheryl Poirier (with Perri Lister) released an album in 1986 using the name Boomerang. This effort was a lot more synthesized and included a cover of These Boots Are Made For Walkin' as a single.
