Vulpess

Vulpess

Vulpess has been played on NTS shows including A Fist in the Face of God presents: Midnite Madness, with Me Gusta Ser Una Zorra first played on 26 July 2016.

Las Vulpess was the first sucessful female punk band from Bilbao, Spain. Formed in the summer of 1980, their popularity rose after appearing on a state television show called "Caja de ritmos" ("Rythmn Box") in 1983. The music TV show was broadcast before the watershed. Las Vulpess played their single "Me gusta ser una zorra" ("I love being a slut"), causing such an uproar that the show's director resigned from his post and the show was canceled. Las Vulpess existed long enough to release their most famous track as a 7" (b/w "Inkisicion") via 'Dos Rombos' record label. In 2003 they played a string of reunion concerts in homage to their drummer, who died in 1993. They reunited again in 2005 to record their only album, "Me gusta ser" ("I like being"). No further reunions have been announced.

On the meaning of the band's name: The word "vulpes" is the Latin term for a female fox --a sly bitch. The idea was that this connotation would go over the heads of most Spaniards, as "vulpes" is not colloquial Spanish but a scientific designation.

The band members were between the ages of 17 and 21 when they got together. Loles Vázquez aka "Anarkoma Zorrita" (guitar), Mamen aka "Evelyn Zorrita" (singer), Begoña aka "Ruth Zorrita" (bass) and Lupe Vázquez aka "Pigüy Zorrita" (drummer)
