Lotti Golden

Lotti Golden

Lotti Golden has been played on NTS in shows including Heat-Wave, featured first on 19 June 2016. Songs played include What's It Worth (Instrumental), Annabelle With Bells (Home Made Girl) and Hey Boy (Dub Mix).

Lotti Golden is an American singer-songwriter, record producer and poet. A cult icon of the late 1960s, Golden is best known for her groundbreaking 1969 debut LP, "Motor-Cycle,"(Atlantic), listed in the New York Times as one the most influential albums of the era.

"Lotti Golden's 1969 album Motor-Cycle is a psychedelic soul trip produced by Bob Crewe. Not yet on CD, it is certainly a crate digging masterpiece. One standout track is "A Lot Like Lucifer", a sprawling epic that starts out soulful, turns ragtime, leads into a stomper, throws in some fuzz guitar, goes for the Memphis sound, and then tosses in the kitchen sink. - WFMU Radio

"Motor-Cycle is that rare party record that’s got a bizarre story behind it while still being a freak-show record that you can throw on at dance parties. To make a crude comparison, it’s as if The Velvet Underground recorded for Motown. In short: debauchery with a beat. Dig it."-Tiny Mix Tapes

In the 1980’s Golden transitioned from artist to writer/producer. Golden's 1982 international dance hit "I Specialize in Love" co-written with musician Richard Scher, enabled her move into record production. A major progenitor of early hip hop, Golden & Scher's project Warp 9 ranks among the top electro hip hop groups. Golden is featured in "Rap Attack 3: African Rap To Global Hip Hop" by David Toop and "Signed, Sealed, and Delivered: True Life Stories of Women of Pop" for her pioneering work as a female record producer. Diana Ross, Al Green, Celine Dion and BB King are among the legendary artists who have recorded Golden’s songs. In the 1990's Golden won the ASCAP Pop Award for songwriting and landed Top 5 hits in the US and abroad. Golden has topped the charts with platinum selling R&B/Pop girl groups including Eternal, Bardot, and Expose. Golden's songs have been sampled by such diverse artists as Madlib and Mark Everett of the EELs. She is apparently planning a comeback, returning to her artist roots. http://lottigolden.com/
