Jonas Olesen

Jonas Olesen

Jonas Olesen was first played on NTS on 10 June 2016. Songs played include Eat Like Hawks.

Jonas Olesen (1978-) is a sound artist from St. Heddinge, Denmark. He runs the electronic archive and mp3-label BIN: http://totem.menneske.dk/batch_totem/BIN/

In 2005 he released an EP on the record label Kontur.

Kontur writes about him: With computer and synthesizer Jonas Olesen creates soundscapes, soundcollages and montages. His pieces often have a tonal affiliation, but at the same time they are filled with noisy erratic sounds. He makes the computer sound like a stuttering and sputtering old machine, yet from this fragile universe he manages to create a charming and inventive expression. He deconstructs his material by cutting it up and looping it at different paces. These cutup sonic figures fall on top of each other, challenging our understanding of phrase and rhythm in music. The sounds are casually processed making their timbre shimmer in surprising, rich and unpredictable ways. With his techniques ir strives towards an imaginary digital landscape, where samples from music history and digital data are conv er ted_m ore o-r l+ess suc Cesf ully.
