Lori & The Chameleons
Lori & The Chameleons
Lori & The Chameleons has been played over 10 times on NTS, first on 17 May 2016. Lori & The Chameleons's music has been featured on 11 episodes.
Lori & the Chameleons was a short-lived project by Bill Drummond and Dave Balfe, who were the brains behind the Zoo Records organisation in the late 70's Liverpool scene. The band released 2 singles: "Touch" and "the Lonely Spy", which have appeared (along with their B-sides) on various Zoo Records and Liverpool scene compilations since. The band also released one EP, "I Love, I Love, I Love Japan".
Little is known about the vocalist Lori, aside from a few accounts that she was a good looking blonde girl, whom it is implied was considered rather attractive by Drummond and Balfe! Some sources say she was in fact Lori Larty, who later went on to marry Marty Healy of Dead or Alive. A blonde girl (presumably Lori) is pictured on the reverse of the "Touch" 7inch single.
Drummond later continued his role as Zoo kingpin until the labels implosion in the early 80s, and then went on to form the KLF (aka the JAMS, Timelords, 2k, K foundation etc) with Jimmy Caulty in the late 80s, continuing until the late 90s.
Balfe was also involved in "Dalek I Love You" and later joined "the Teardrop Explodes" for a time. He later focused his talents as a producer for Food Records.
