Max Headroom

Max Headroom

Max Headroom has been played on NTS in shows including Radio Jiro, featured first on 11 November 2015. Songs played include Paranomia and Paranoimia.

1) The virtual character Max Headroom was front man in the song Paranoimia by the Art of Noise. He originally appeared in a British movie about a reporter who sticks his nose too far into his network's business (Network 23) when people start dying of subliminal burst-fed advertising. During the escape from the network building, the reporter, one Edison Carter (as played by Matt Frewer ) knocks his head into a parking garage gate while trying to get out on a small motorcycle… the last thing he sees is the message written on it is "MAX. HEADROOM 2.5M" or some such. The reporter's brain is scanned while he's out - and the process is interrupted, leaving the new virtual version of Edison a bit glitchy and disoriented. Max Headroom becomes his name, and from that simple beginning as the star of a british movie, he became the spokesman for Coca-Cola, and had his own talk show on Cinemax, as well as a US-made TV series version of the original movie.

2) Max Headroom is a Dutch power trio that plays entirely improvised stoner rock jams. The band was formed in late 2010 by three musicians that come from Plutonium Nyborg (doom), Fal-Tor-Voh (stoner rock), Fresh & Frozen (grunge), Musical Chairs Collective (improvised). As Max Headroom they excel in spontaneous improvised instrumentals that can just as easily be labeled desert rock as free-jazz or psychedelic rock
