Chris Cookson, Kevin Furlong, Phil Frankel, Paul Gallagher and Niall Mercer emerged from Thrash Culture in 1986 to form Black State Choir. They released their first single in 1987 but by 1993 only Kevin (aka Pádi Stáid / aka zeronoise) and Paul (aka P.G. Raheen) remained active as Black State Choir. At this point they collaborated with Duncan Lomax (aka Savage) and released Permaculture.
Permaculture was described as a sampled blend between The Orb, Delerium, Consolidated and Meat Beat Manifesto: “Trance-music for people fed up with our contemporary consumer-oriented culture”, mixed with house, dance, industrial and electro elements.
Black State Choir released on Brainwar (Antler Records), Scam Records/Bop Cassettes and most prominently on Permis De Construire Deutschland (PDCD).
In 1995 Black State Choir collaborated with Pascal Derycke (aka px) to form Hal. Paul and Duncan also recorded and released one album as North Pacific Drift.
