Marlon Lorenzo Jackson was born in Abbeville, South Carolina the second of two children. Marlon lost his father at the age of 10, forcing him to become the man of the house at an early age. Putting the skills his father instilled in him, he learned the act of determination and perseverance and through that became (Marjac) “jack of all trades”. At the age of 10 Marlon and his cousin Carlton Klugh started a group called the JK’s where they would enter talent shows performing New Edition. They were often the highlight of many talent shows and competitions. After winning multiple 1st place contest they entered in a talent show to go to audition for “Putting on the Hits”, where they lost by 1. From that point, Marlon’s mother introduced him to a friend of hers named Larry Moore who then was the keyboard player for James Brown’s Band, who later introduced them to the Legend Tony Cook who also played drums for James Brown. After meeting Marlon, Tony found interest in his music and signed him to a record deal with Go Bin Records. On the road……Marlon opened for many artist such as: Freddie Jackson, Tony Toni Tone, Full Force, EU, Bobby Blue Bland and Tony Cook and The Party People. Before graduating from high school and beginning college, Marlon often wrote and sang music while working occasionall temporary jobs. While the term “occasional temporary jobs” was used many of the jobs could have easily been life-long careers for many. Marlon cut hair and worked as a bus driver, while in school; volunteer fire fighter, also while in school; paid fire fighter; owned and operated local nightclubs; bail bonding;owned and operated a thriving record store which would often have in house stars who were in the area for concerts ( including H-Town and Joe amongst others. In 1989 Marlon released “My Girl” and “You Wanna Jam? You Wanna Party? It received favorable reviews in his hometown and the southern region so much so it was played in heavy rotation. Looking for new adventures Marlon moved to Washington, DC in 1994. Since then Marlon has met, dined, and hung out with so many of the rich and famous in athletics, media, politics and entertainment that it’s hard to pin point which has been the most memorable moment, although having his album re-released 20+ years later does make you feel like you’ve done something right! The adventure continues……
