Position Normal

Position Normal

Position Normal has been played on NTS shows including Alien Jams w/ Chloe Frieda, with The Blank first played on 3 October 2015.

Position Normal was formed in London in 1993 and consists of Chris Bailiff (producer) and John Cushway (vocals). Named after the ferric cassettes they used and still use for recording and gigs. Their first release was on the Lissy's record label under the name Bugger Sod in 1995. They have also made noise under the name Ron Superior.

Chris Bailiff, main component of Position Normal, began to create music without any intention of commercializing it, but when the label Mind Horizon Recordings was interested in ‘Stop Your Nonsense’, their 1999 debut album was officially released with the support of a record company. In creating Stop Your Nonsense, Bailiff used old vinyl belonging to his father -then Alzheimer’s patient- and other sources such as the 1960s documentary ‘7 Up’, which looked at the British class system from the perspective of children, or the chatter overheard in a fruit and vegetable shop’, to create a series of ‘melodic mosaics’ that present a ‘mildly menacing Anglo-Dadaist atmosphere’.

Their second album Goodly Time was released in the same year on Rum Records and then the Tokyo San San San label in 2003. The eponymous third album was issued in Japan only in 2009.
