Tyler Knapp’s musical journey began in suburban Indianapolis where he grew up and fell in love with hip hop. his influences included a dad who chilled to classic rock and a mom who loved soul/r&b. his older brother exposed him to ALL elements of music.
Tyler discovered hip hop in junior high when he first heard artists like Afrika Bambadda, RUN DMC, BDP, etc . . . his life was changed forever. as a freshman in high school, he got some turntables. in college, he began making beats.
in the early 90s, fate brought Tyler and Russell Johnson together. Russell wrote rhymes, Tyler made beats, The Mudkids were created. since then, Tyler and Russell have taken their signature sound to a new level in hip hop. with almost 5 albums and national acclaim from USA Today, Chicago Tribune, Rap Pages, Billboard, Indianapolis Star, NUVO Newsweekly, Indianapolis Monthly (to name a few . . .), The Mudkids continue to elevate and dominate.
