paula moore or birdpaula was born in Tennessee and grew up in a musical environment. She inherited her mother’s passion for opera, lieder, english and welsh folksongs, and the affinity for jazz and blues from her father. She left her homestate when she was four, settled in Chicago, and later New Hampshire. Her musical studies include classical voice training, piano and guitar, as well as work with jazz pianist Jeff Gardner.
During the 80’s she sang in Parisian blues clubs, did some recording and composed for television. Indeed birdpaula is a complete artist, and when music took the background for a while, she devoted most of her time to painting and exhibiting her work.
In 2005 she did a featuring for her son Jackson on his album “Smash…Jackson and his Computer Band” which led her to meeting Marc Collin, initiator of the Nouvelle Vague project and a renown producer.
Marc liked her songwriting and her vocal style, invited her to participate on several of his projects, and then decided to produce an album of her own work.
Thus was born “birdpaula” a collection of eleven songs of delicate understatement, infused with folk and jazz inflections.
