Dubdadda

Dubdadda

Dubdadda has been played on NTS in shows including Top Nice, featured first on 27 November 2012. Songs played include Give Dub, Jah Music Is The Key and Boxes & Amps (Wadadda Remix).

The Dubdadda, or Jono as he is known throughout the reggae world, is one of the mainstays of the UK reggae scene. Hailing from Manchester he was a founder member of the renowned Community Charge – the best homegrown reggae talent in the UK in their era.

After the demise of this band the Dubdadda was instrumental in forming Nucleus Roots alongside other former members of the Community Charge line-up. The sound of the nucleus has been heard all over Europe and they are still currently one of the UK’s top ranking reggae ensembles – particularly when the Dubdadda sits in with them on a session.

More recently, Dubdadda has been working with the mighty Zion Train in the studio, as an integral part of the new live show and as the main mc on Zion Train Sound System sessions. All this alongside writing and recording his debut solo album – what a busy boy.!

‘Lo-fi pon de Hi-fi’, was released in 2004 on Dub Hooligan music and distributed by Universal Egg. The album is a collection of self penned UK dub-plate style tunes, recorded and mixed at the Dubdadda studios in Manchester. Taking the principles of old school dub mixing and with new school sounds and technology the Dubdadda has made his mark on the sound system scene / dubworld. With sound systems like Iration steppas, Aba Shanti I and Abassi Hi Power playing exclusive Dubdadda dub cuts has meant his work has been long time sort after. Not only being recognised for his vocal and frontman antics, and wild dub mixes in live performances, his recorded presence is also being felt in session and dance halls all over the world.

Dubdadda is currently recording his second long player for release on Universal Egg and released the 7" single 'So Much Confusion' featuring Judy Green on vocals on the Deep Root imprint in summer 2006.
