1/3 Octave Band has been played on NTS shows including Don't Trip w/ Margarita, with Merrill first played on 13 January 2014.

1/3 Octave Band is an ambient / drone duo from Wellington, New Zealand that consists of Bill Wood of Birdcatcher and Jules Desmond (ex Grey Daturas) of Black Boned Angel. They have also been known to collaborate with others unfortunate enough to agree to do so. The 1/3 Octave Band carves out aural sculptures from formless base slabs of sound consisting of field recordings, broken electronics, old guitars, radios - in fact, whatever comes to hand. The results have been described as "cinematic" and "moving with the aimless grandeur of space junk".
