Max Tundra

NTS regular Max Tundra has been hosting Max Tundra’s Rotogravure since 29 November 2018. Max Tundra has been played over 40 times on NTS, first on 19 April 2013. Max Tundra's music has been featured on 15 episodes.

The music that Londoner Ben Jacobs makes under the name Max Tundra is dizzyingly dense, labyrinthine, and hyperactive, but at the same time utterly effervescent, sunny, and obsessed with melody.

In 1998, Warp released his first single, Children at Play, based on a demo tape sent to the label. The full-length Some Best Friend You Turned Out to Be followed in 2000 on Domino. Rapturously received, 2002's Mastered by Guy at the Exchange marked the first appearance of vocals in Tundra's music, sporting a dozen warped pop songs - all with six-letter titles.

During the subsequent half-decade, he remixed Franz Ferdinand, Architecture in Helsinki, the Futureheads, Pet Shop Boys, Missy Elliott and The Strokes, before releasing his third LP in 2008, Parallax Error Beheads You. PEBY featured his most polished, pop-oriented compositions to date, without sacrificing any of the frenetic giddiness, control-freak complexity, or visionary strangeness of his earlier work.

In 2018 he wrote and produced the comeback album for pop duo Daphne & Celeste, entitled Daphne & Celeste Save The World, their first album in 18 years. It was released on Max Tundra’s label, Balatonic.

These days, Max Tundra has an extraordinarily eclectic monthly radio show on NTS called Max Tundra’s Rotogravure.
