Detroit Grand Pubahs

Detroit Grand Pubahs

Detroit Grand Pubahs has been played on NTS shows including Jonny Trunk Plays God, with Dr Bootygrabber (Mr O's Miami Mix) first played on 18 January 2015.

The Detroit Grand Pubahs are Dr. Toefinger (Andy Toth) and Paris the Black Fu (Mack Goudy, Jr.). Both are from Detroit, Michigan, United States. They combine electro, hip hop, and booty-bass with a good dose of humour to create a unique sound.

Both of the Pubahs started in music at an early age, with Andy starting to play drums in various local bands at 16. Vocalist Mack began Djing at a similar age having been influenced by Jeff Mills’ legendary radio mix shows. After leaving school Andy took a job as an engineer at a local recording studio while Mack continued to DJ and sing as one half of Heckle and Jeckle, with Jon Billebob Williams.

While both were active on the Detroit scene they did not meet until they both happened to be working in the same restaurant in Michigan. They got together and started producing music their first release was "Sandwiches" – released in 2000 on Throw records and as its popularity spread it was picked up by New York-based Jive Electro.

Further acclaim and publicity was generated by their wild live show that combines the same weirdness and sense of fun that is in their music. Involving silly costumes, wigs and fake beards the shows normally end with Mack stripping down to a tiny thong.

In 2001 they continued to tour their live act and released their first full length album "Funk All Y'all" on Intuit-Solar. More singles 2003’s “The Clapper” and 2004’s “Big Onion” followed on Poker Flat Recordings. The Pubahs second album "Galactic Ass Creatures from Uranus" was also released in 2004. At the same time, Toth left for other adventures and was replaced by The Mysterious Mr O.

After that they continued to tour and they met a lot of people. In 2006 they hired Domguè as Sax player and Mo T as guitarist for their liveshows.

The third album "Nuttin' butt funk" was released in 2008 on their own label Det.Ele.Funk.

For some liveshows, a new drummer, Emeric Di Paolo, plays with them.
