Born in Tokyo, raised in Brazil, and educated in French schools, but it was in London that Noriko Sekiguchi, also known as POiSON GiRL FRiEND first found the music that would inspire her own work. She became infatuated with the UK and US house music that was filling the city in the mid to late 1980s, before returning to Tokyo, bringing the music with her to the city's clubs as a DJ. Releasing multiple albums, the POiSON GiRLFRiEND project – featuring a house and breakbeat-infused pop and R&B sound – reached minor commercial and critical acclaim. Sekiguchi's solo music along with her work in obscure group Kiss-O-Matic has experienced a small revival following some Japanese music fanatics exploration of 90s CD releases.

Taylor McFerrin

On 5 October 2016, Taylor McFerrin was a guest on The Brass And Crimson. Taylor McFerrin has been played on NTS over 40 times, featured on 48 episodes and was first played on 17 December 2012.

Taylor McFerrin is a jazz/soul/electronic musician and producer whose first recorded appearance was as a background singer on “Jubilee”, a song included on his father Bobby McFerrin's 1982 debut album. Moving on 3 decades, following on from a series of singles and EPs, Taylor released his amazing debut album ‘Early Riser’ on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint in 2014.

The album featured guest appearances from Nai Palm (Hiatus Kaiyote), Thundercat, Robert Glasper, Cesar Mariano, Marcus Gilmore and, returning a favour from 32 years prior, Bobby McFerrin.

Taylor continues to tour worldwide supporting the release of his album both as a solo act, and as a duo featuring jazz drummer prodigy Marcus Gilmore. In addition to headline shows around North America, he has performed alongside artists such as Erykah Badu, The Roots, Nas and Talib Kweli.
