Roshell Anderson was born on September 16, 1952 in Bogalusa, Louisiana, and raised in New Orleans. He worked at a number of southern radio stations as announcer and disc jockey beginning in 1970, releasing his first single Snake Out of Green Grass in 1972, with a debut album, Introducing, coming out in 1973.
