(1) Hydronaut is a riff-centric rocknroll band from Boston MA. They like to keep it in the pocket. They like it loud, wild and drunk. They recently recorded a 5 song EP at Camp St. Studio which is available in digital format only. The members past and current bands include Clouds, Pet Genius, The Octave Museum, Thee Electric Bastards, Buried In Leather, Mellow Bravo and Phantom Glue.
(2) Hydronaut is Jay Ahern aka Aquarhythms. Cheap and Deep Productions Jay Ahern (Hauntologists, Add Noise) grew up in Florida, where 'Bass Music' and it's subsonic pulse was the soundtrack to those hot and humid Florida nights. Later on Jay heard the sound again in a new flavour, Chicago House and Detroit Techno , and during the 90's Jay started the 'Aquarhythms' label, releasing mixes by Carl Craig, Morgan Geist as well as under his own monikers to keep the deep beats rolling. Stepping out of the 'wayback machine' and returning to the recent present, when Jay was on tour with Robert Henke (Monolake) providing beats on a classic 808 drum machine that he got in Miami back in the day , after a gig in Belgrade one night he met Goran Simonoski (BGYSS, Piece of Shh…) and the two of them bonded over rakija (the local moonshine), dub, acid house and bass. It was then decided a collaboration (and more rakija) was in order so when Jay later returned to Belgrade while touring as Add Noise, he brought vocalist Uta Alder from Berlin with him. Jay had heard Uta performing on Gudrun Gut's album and wanted to feature Uta's unique voice against some stripped down and haunted beats… Soon, 'Words, Breaths and Pauses' was born, the A-side track of this EP which will be distributed by Hard Wax. Recorded in Goran's La Plant Studios in Belgrade and mixed by Jay at his 'Cheap And Deep' studio in Berlin, this track comes backed with 2 more rhythm heavy club jams which Jay made back home in Berlin. Honorable mentions also go to Matt Patey (sound design for Junior Boys) and Rashad Becker who both added parts to further enhance the uniqueness of this EP. The record was cut by CGB at Dubplates & Mastering in Berlin, where the final touches on the soundsystem rocking bottom end were perfected. Bass is the place. www.cheapanddeep.net
