Stymie

Stymie has been played on NTS in shows including Loose Bones, featured first on 19 January 2015. Songs played include Girl.

There is more than one artist with this name:

1) Stymie is a Texas based pop punk band.

2) Stymie was a grunge band from Seattle.

Biographies are listed below: 1) Stymie is a pop punk band from Denton, Texas. Their releases include the Sourpuss 7", a contribution to Art of the Underground's single series and splits with Kicking Spit and Unfun. They also recorded the never officially released full length Condescending World. "Stymie made a name for themselves in their hometown of Denton, TX hanging outside of local high schools, playing Billy Squire, and harassing students whom they've deemed "nerds." However, curbing their less glamorous attributes, the band impressed these United States on several tours performing some of the exciting punk rock of recent years. With tight melodies and influences ranging from Jawbreaker to the Queers, the band brings some much needed energy and always appreciated self-deprecation to the game, aided by enough misguided intentions to woo even the most studded of punkers." -T.B. Player

2) The band started as a regular five piece band in Feb. 1992. They played a handful of shows opening for the likes of Flop and an early incarnation of the Presidents of the United States of America called Go. They recorded a demo and were featured on a 7" comp. called Things That Are Heavy. They were then joined by a second bassist. For a period they actually played with two bassists and two guitarists, but eventually switched over to three guitars and one bass after recording their second demo. Their second demo resulted in the three song Grocery Bag 7". Thirsty Ear Records out of New York got excited about Stymie and the band convinced the label to pay for the next demo. Thirsty Ear opted not to sign Stymie, but full rights to the recording were returned to the band. One of those songs ended up on C/Z's Teriyaki Asthma vol. IX 7" comp. and one appeared on a split single with Control Freak that was distributed in a Japanese fanzine called Fringe!. The band slogged on and recorded its fourth--and best--demo. One song appeared on a split single (along with a tune from their first demo) with Lab Rat that was limited to a pressing of 200 copies. Each record featured a different cover made from police photos of automobile accident scenes. The band eventually added a percussionist and broke up in Nov. 1994 after playing its final show opening for Ace Frehley. Stymie reunited in January 1995 to record two more songs and eventually released their Debut Posthumous single.
