Yellow Kitchen

Yellow Kitchen

Yellow Kitchen has been played on NTS in shows including The NTS Breakfast Show w/ Flo, featured first on 23 November 2023. Songs played include Just Blew By.

Yellow Kitchen was one of the very first pioneers of Korean Indie music explosion around Hongdae area in the late 90's. Originally formed with 4 members, who were 최수환, 도순주, 여운진, 김책, Yellow Kitchen released their first EP as one side of the monumentary compilation album in 1996 along with Crying Nut. While Crying Nut appealed with its enjoyable neo-punk sound filled with dynamic energy, Yellow Kitchen is said to represent a more aesthetic and serious aspect of the scene. Noise-shoegazer sound with visible influences from No wave like notably Sonic Youth and Pixies, marks this period of the band.

After that 여운진 and 김책 had to quit the band, 최수환 and 도순주 continued their researches in sound and turn toward a more sophisticated and electronics friendly sound, releasing another joint album with 99, in 1998. Afterwards they kept on building their walls of sound with more IDM-ambient approaches, releasing the first full-length in the same year and in 2002.
