At a party following the Latvian Eurovision Song Contest preliminaries in 2002, Martin Freiman came up with an idea for the following year’s contest. Why not have several artists join together in song?
In the fall of 2002, during a Latvian National Television golf tournament, three artists, Martin Freiman, Lauris Raynix and Yana Kay, started discussing the project and the trio F.L.Y. was born. Their song, “Hello from Mars”, was written by Martin and Lauris, and recorded soon afterwards.
Each individual F.L.Y. member has a successful musical career. Yana and Lauri are solo artists and have each released an album; Martin is lead singer of the band Tumsa, which has three albums to its credit.
Yana, Lauri and Martin have all participated separately in the Latvian Eurovision Song Contest preliminaries, but their big break – the chance to represent Latvia at the Eurovision Finals – came only this year, when they participated as a group.
After spending time together promoting their Eurovision Song Contest entry “Hello From Mars”, F.L.Y. started jamming and creating new songs. The result is a complete album, which will be released in Latvia at the beginning of May, and in Europe following the big night (May 24) in Riga.
