There are at least four bands with this name.
1.Linoleum (Bulgaria) is a pop punk band from Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
Linoleum (Australia) were a Melbourne-based indie / alternative musical group active during the late 1990's and early 2000's.
Linoleum (UK) were a London-based indie / alternative musical group active during the late 1990's.
Linoleum (Russia) is a punk-rock band formed in Perm, Permskiy Kray in 2003.
Linoleum UK:
Linoleum UK's original line up consisted of Caroline Finch - vocals/guitar, Paul Jones - guitar, Emma Tornaro - bass and Dave Nice - drums. This line up changed slightly in 2000 when Paul Jones left the band to join Elastica, he was replaced by Gavin Pearce.
The first few releases in the UK were released on the band's own label "lino vinyl" and featured sleeves made from linoleum, some of which the band cut out themselves. In December 1996 the band were signed by Geffen for all releases in the rest of the world. The debut album Dissent was recorded at Fort Apache Studios in Cambridge, Massachusetts with Paul Kolderie and Sean Slade producing whose previous efforts included projects with Radiohead, Hole and the Pixies among others. It received a generally positive reaction but failed to make the breakthrough hoped for leading to a change of label with Fierce Panda releasing later singles and second album The Race from the Burning Building. It is rumoured that they got dropped by their label because of the band (not Caroline) failing to turn up for a gig - their excuse was that their gear was stolen.
The current status of the band in unknown although since 2000 Caroline Finch has been involved in the composition of soundtracks for various films.
Linoleum Australia:
Linoleum (Australia) were the musical outlet for Neil Brennan (Nello) and his cohort of musical friends all based in the inner-Melbourne area. Linoleum created tuneful indie power-pop, and had some success on Australan independent radio, most notably Triple-J and 3PBS. Members of Linoleum played in many other Melbourne bands of the time, including MacGuffins, Redfish Bluefish, and (earlier) Stick Figures. Nick Allen is still playing with the jazz outfit Portmanteaux.
In 1997 Linoleum signed a contract with the "Id" label, that being the then indie arm of Polygram Australia. Labelmates included D.I.G. and Dave Graney. Id promptly imploded only months after the signing.
Linoleum, as is common for many bands of its ilk, has fallen into disrepair as age and children have taken their toll on its members. At one time or another, all of the following people have played or recorded with Linoleum (Australia):
Nello (Neil Brennan) - vocals, songs, guitars, keys Marty Rankin - drums David Carr - guitars, bass Glen Edmonds - bass Julian Senserrick - bass Nick Allen - bass John Collard - drums Fiona Furphy - cello Alice Garner - cello Gid (Gerard Neil) - cello
Linoleum Russia:
Linoleum is a Russian punk-rock group formed in Perm, Permskiy Kray in 2003. The band has consisted of Gera (vocal, guitar); Vitaliy (bass) and Vitaliy (drums) for the majority of its existence. Linoleum has been credited as one of the first punk rock bands in the city. In 2005 the band started an experimental deviation from the standard punk brand of music - they started to mix ska-music elements and punk/hardcore music. To achieve theese goals the band recruited two new members: Sergey(trumpet) and Sergey (saxophone). With this cast the group has participated and performed lots of concerts in Perm and neighbouring cities. In 2007 they recorded their first debut album “Vipivoha”.Right after that Linoleum has undergone significant changes. Saxophonist and later trumpeter left the band due personal reasons, but guitarist Sergey from fellow Ovsyanka Sir band joined the Linoleum ranks. Though Linoleum entered into the studio in the early 2009 to work on a new album and in autumn 2009 the renewed band released their second album “Segodnya Vecherom”
