After Ptak left Size 14 and moved to New York the band became a full functional live band in 1998 As of 1998 Artificial Joy ( NYC ) featured Milena Mepris Pin Me Down on guitar who would later form Pin Me Down with Russell Lissack of Block Party, Mark Cevellos on Bass and John Lamkin on drums. The band played shows regularly in New York, sold a 7 track CD EP at shows and received alot of downloads on the now defunct mp3.com. Some of the material Ptak had recorded earlier while in L.A under the same name Artificial Joy. Artificial Joy split in 2001 Ptak then went to form The Bastard Kings Of Rock, using much of the material playing in Artificial Joy as well as writing new material.

Guest musicians on recordings included Schatzi vocalist/guitarist Christian Kyle, Dave DeCeglie. Tracks recorded during this time were with through a Development Deal Ptak got with Universal Records.
