David Hykes

David Hykes

David Hykes has been played over 10 times on NTS, first on 4 September 2014. David Hykes's music has been featured on 18 episodes.

David Hykes (born Taos, New Mexico, 1953) is the renowned founder of Harmonic Chant, a universal sacred music, and the Harmonic Presence work, a system of transforming musical and meditative spirituality. He is an award-winning composer, singer, and a principal pioneer in the modern harmonic, healing sounds and contemplative chant movements.

He founded the universal sacred music called Harmonic Chant and The Harmonic Choir, considered the western world's pre-eminent overtone ensemble, in New York in 1975. He created the terms "harmonic singing" and "overtone chanting" to describe the new form of universal sacred music he began to develop with the group.

These terms are now generic and Hykes' music and ideas have influenced countless musicians and "sound healers" around the world.

His first album, "Hearing Solar Winds," remains the best-selling overtone album of all time, with 300,000 copies sold to date. He has collaborated with the Dalai Lama, and the Gyuto and Gyume Monks, and has contributed music to a number of important spiritual films including "Baraka," "Meetings with Remarkable Men," "Travellers and Magicians," and many others.

He currently divides his time between the Harmonic Presence Foundation's center in France and teaching throughout the United States and other countries, directing the Harmonic Presence Foundation and its research into music, consciousness and the nature of essential harmony.
