True Swamp Neglect are only the latest in a succession of several groups (including the near-legendary Weazel Fury) formed during the nineties by the same group of school-friends from the Bournemouth suburb of Boscombe.
"The Swamp" in particular formed around the turn of the Millenium, coalescing around five names - guitarist/lyricist Chris Catlin, guitarist Ed Mitchell, bassist Ciaran Longrigg, drummer Barney Lyall, and theremin-manipulator Ian Evans, who had also taught music at their high school.
Frequently described as a British equivalent of US indie-stars Pavement, TSN have recorded and released two albums, "Sleep Function Lost" - which was released on the south coast-based Superglider label in 2003; and "Cloudcloudcloud" - which was released on their own Reckno label in 2008.
Ian Evans left the group to teach in Yorkshire between the release of the two albums, and the band is currently enjoying a hiatus, while Barney Lyall travels in the Far East and Australia. Chris Catlin makes music under the "nom de circuits", Yaaaard, and as a manipulative Svengali/Andrew Lloyd Webber figure in the nihilistic R&B outfit, Energy Tigers.
