Javier Paxariño

Javier Paxariño plays soprano sax, nay flute, bass flute, bass clarinet, Turkish clarinet, shakuhachi and ti-Tze among others. His music mixes folk sounds and rhythms from Spain, India, Turkey, China…, performed in a very personal and creative way, drawing his very own landscapes.

Born in Granada, Javier Paxariño soon moved to Malaga, where he completed his early music studies at the Senior Music Conservatory under Perfecto Artola. He started in his musical activity with jazz and rock bands during the 1970’s and at the end of the decade he formed the Ónice Jazz Quartet.

At this time he also began to experiment with ethnic flutes and getting involved in this style of music.

From jazz to folk, covering cutting edge styles and even 1970’s progressive rock. Javier Paxariño’s musical career is wide and versatile, full of collaborations in musical projects both of his own and with great national and international artists, in the world of film, television, dance and theatre. Javier Paxariño Group was chosen to represent New Music in Spain at the Pop Kom in Germany.
